The Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday started the redistribution of the unused allocation for motorcycle taxis in Metro Manila and in Cagayan de Oro.
In a press conference, Antonio Gardiola Jr., LTFRB board member and motorcycle taxi service interagency technical working group (TWG) chairman, said over 11,000 slots were not tapped in Metro Manila and in Cagayan de Oro. Only slots for Cebu were filled up. .
Gardiola said as of the February 13 deadline for registration, over 41,000 riders registered in Metro Manila of which 20,000 were for Angkas; 15,000 for Joyride and 6,836 for Moveit.
That leaves over 3,000 slots more for redistribution.
In Metro Cebu, Angkas registered 4,500 riders and Joyride, 4,588.
In Cagayan de Oro, 923 registered for Angkas and 176 for Joyride.
For Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, none registered for Moveit.
Slots allocated for Moveit in Cebu were taken up by Angkas and Joyride.
That means over 7,900 slots are up for grabs in Cagayan de Oro.
After talks with the participating motorcycle transport network companies (TNCs) and stakeholders, the TWG last month increased the rider cap to 63,000 with each of the TNCs given 15,000 slots each in Metro Manila for a total of 45,000; 3,000 slots each for the TNCs in Cebu and another 3,000 slots each in Cagayan de Oro or a total of 9,000 for each city.
The TWG also expanded the pilot study’s coverage area following the decision to push through with the Motorcycle Taxi Pilot Study.
Meanwhile, Jojo Garcia Metro Manila Development Authority general manager said the agency will propose to prohibit motorcycle taxis from passing through the national roads such as EDSA, C5 among others, to ensure the passenger safety.
