IMI extends closure of Chengdu facility

Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) has extended the suspension of operation of its Sichuan facility in Chengdu, China to take more precaution and protect the employees since the infection rate of novel coronavirus (nCoV) increased significantly over the weekend.

The resumption of operations is now scheduled on February 10 instead of February 3 as earlier announced.

Last week IMI said it was suspending works in Guangdong, Zhejiang, Sichuan, and Jiangsu facilities as a result of the nCov crisis in China.

IMI said the decision was in adherence to local government notices extending the Chinese new year holidays to allow the government to put in place measures to contain spread of the virus.

As a result, IMI said the Guangdong and Zhejiang facilities may resume operation only as early as February 10 and the Jiangsu facility by February 9.

“Along with the customers, IMI is developing contingency plans to recover production backlogs as a result of these suspensions including among others, the temporary transfer of production activities for some customers to other IMI manufacturing plants.

Management is communicating with local government offices regarding the possibility of resuming production earlier than the mandated dates at reduced production capacity,” IMI said.
