BIR collects P13B from tax amnesty

The government has collected P13.06 billion from its two tax amnesty programs so far this year, the Department of Finance (DOF) said.

Dakila Napao, DOF assistant secretary, said in a recent virtual briefing that of the said amount, P7.89 billion was accounted for by tax amnesty on delinquencies.

The remaining P5.17 billion came from the estate tax amnesty program, Napao said.

“In terms of those who availed of tax amnesty on delinquencies, as of Sept. 7, 2021, we have 6,099 availers, while for the estate tax amensty, availers totaled 67,823,” Napao said.

Last June 30, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) 11569, extending the availment of estate tax amnesty to 2023.

RA 11569 amends section 6 of RA 11213, known as the Tax Amnesty Act.

According to the amended section, those who wish to avail of the estate tax amnesty shall file with the BIR within June 15, 2021 until June 14, 2023.

“The payment of the amnesty tax shall be made at the time the return is filed,” it states.
